Ahhh October, a month when we finally have to admit that summer is well an truly behind us. Thank goodness therefore for the Bavarian tradition of Oktoberfest which helps drown those post summer blues one Beer stein and bratwurst at a time. 1. German Gymnasium 

Grade II listed German Gymnasium, was originally designed in 1865 as the first purpose built gym in England. Funded solely by London’s German community for the German Gymnastics Society it was host to London’s first Olympic Games, in 1866. Located near King’s Cross this impressive building has recently been given a makeover and is now a fully functioning restaurant and event space serving Mittel- European inspired dishes.

2. Bodo’s Schloss

An Austrian themed Alpine ski lodge, located in the heart of Kensington. Comprising a restaurant, bar and disko expect Austrian authenticity and tradition at its best.

3. Bierschenke

Bierschenke is an authentic Munich Bierkeller, serving an outstanding selection of German beers and traditional, home-cooked, German food.  A particular highlight is its live Bavarian oompah band.

4. Bavarian Beerhouse
The Bavarian Beerhouse was the first German restaurant in the UK. Now boasting two locations, this Bavarian restaurant and bar is famous for having the longest Oktoberfest in the world, which runs for a magnificent 8 weeks a year.

5. Tiroler Hut 
Although smaller than its other Bavarian themed counterparts this venue should definitely not be discounted. It is an authentic family-run affair that combines good food, entertainment and easily transports you from the hustle and bustle of London. A highlight is the nightly performance from Joseph the owner which includes yodelling, the accordion and Tirolean cow bells.
