Royal College of Physicians receive sustainable recognition
The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) has become the first royal college to receive the Carbon Trust Standard certification. The award-winning conference centre, which hosts over 500 events a year, has received the certification in recognition of its commitment to sustainable working.
The certification follows a reduction of 30% in their total carbon footprint over the past three years.
The RCP has switched electricity provision entirely to 100% renewable energy and uses environmentally responsible suppliers and service partners.
Other measure they have taken include:
- Investing heavily to upgrade its plant and infrastructure, including new boilers and building management systems to improve energy efficiency throughout the building and conference centre.
- Implementing a robust waste management programme, which has significantly reduced its plastic waste and increased recycling .
Natacha Allen, Head of Sales & Marketing for Meetings & Events at RCP, comments:
“Sustainability is an important factor and a key consideration for conference organisers and planners and so we are delighted and very proud to be the first Royal College to be recognised for our achievements in reducing our own carbon footprint and environmental impact on the planet.
We are committed to reducing our environmental impact even further across all our operations, including with our new headquarters in Liverpool which, once built, will be one of the most sustainable buildings in the UK.”
